Wright is no stranger to the world of popular music. This award
winning mult-platinum artist has been making wonderful rock music
since the late 60's with the legendary Spooky Tooth, as well as
recording a ton of his own solo projects which have become standard
rock classics still heard today. Gary continues
his tradition of creating music that fans worldwide will savor
with his this his first Friday Music effort entitled First
Signs of Life.
Wright notes "Several years ago I visited Brazil and fell
in love with the music and rhythms of the Brazillian People.
I recorded some percussionists while there and brought the tapes
back to L.A., not really knowing what I would do with them. A
few years later, I did some work with Savuka from South Africa
and became aware of the beauty and simplicity of African Choral
Music. The thought occurred to me of using my Brazilian
percussion tracks with African vocals. My first experiment
was "Kani
Fe." I was so happy with the results, I decided to
do an entire album blending the cultures of Africa, Brazil and
South India with my own music. The project became a labor
of love and the experience of making this album will remain in
my heart always."
The ten songs that make up this album truly
represent the heart and soul of this artist. His albums
have always reached out for something different, something exciting
musically, and always entertaining.
Incredible world rhythms abounding,

exotic pieces like "Rio Amazonas" and "Rio
Amazonas Part Two" truly keep the thematic feel that this
musical visionary successfully displays, while showcasing his world
music talents. Several of his good friends like the late George
Harrison and Jimmy Haslip from the Yellowjackets, and Terry Bozio
help out on the amazing track "Don't Try To Own
Me."
